The Best Places to Watch the Sunrise and Sunset Around the U.S.

The Best Places to Watch the Sunrise and Sunset Around the U.S.

I’ve always loved sunsets and sunrises. It’s continuously brought me indescribable joy. When I was younger I made a pact with myself that every place I traveled I would make sure to watch both the sunset and sunrise, as well as find the best place to do that. As a result, I’ve spent my whole life chasing the sun. (And I don’t regret a single moment).

More locations being added yearly so check back in!

Here are my favorite places all over the United States.

Florida.

Sunrise:📍St. Petersburg, FL. - Although St. Pete is on the west cost of Florida, the sunrises are the best I’ve seen.

Sunset:📍St. Petersburg, FL. - I may be a little biased since I live here, but oh. my. god. are these the best sunsets I’ve ever seen. If you’re anywhere on the gulf coast, make sure to catch the sun setting into the ocean. Pro tip: stay after the sun sets. The best part comes after. If you wait long enough, the sky lights up in bright, fiery colors, as the sun explodes below the horizon. My two favorite places to see the sunset is at Fort Desoto Park or Pass-A-Grille beach.

Sunset #2:📍Sanibel/Captiva Island, FL. - The parking may be $5 but for this sunset, it’s one hundred percent worth it. I mean what’s better than watching the sunset on the beach, surrounded by ocean waves and salty air?

Maine.

Sunset:📍Sebago Lake, ME. - Every single night, the sky lights up in all colors of pink and fiery red. The lake below, reflecting the color even more beautiful than the clouds. Each sunset is different from the next and equally as beautiful.

Massachusetts.

Sunset:📍Boston, MA. - I am a sucker for sunsets in a city, and Boston is definitely one of my all time favorite. This particular spot is on the Brookline Ave bridge next to Fenway Park.

New Hampshire.

Sunset:📍Twin Mountain, NH. - The sunset is pretty much spectacular anywhere in New Hampshire, but by a river with a campfire is definitely my favorite.

New Jersey.

Sunset:📍Mine Hill, NJ. - Some of the best sunsets happen in the fall when the leaves are dropped and the trees allow you to see through them. The sky seems to light up a little bit brighter in the colder months.

New York.

Sunset:📍New York City, NY. - ___. My favorite places so far are from the High Line or on the Roosevelt Island Tram. You cannot beat the views.

North Carolina.

Sunrise:📍Max Patch, Hot Springs, NC. - This sunrise is well worth getting up before the crack of dawn to see. Enjoy a small, easy, loop hike up to the top of Max Patch, have a picnic breakfast, camp or spend some time doing yoga, all while above the clouds. - Tip: Max Patch is a little bit out of the way, and the drive from the closest city (Asheville) is about an hour. The sunrise and the views from the top of the hike are totally worth waking up so early for.

Sunset:📍Jockey’s Ridge. Nags Head, Outer Banks, NC. - Enjoy the sunset while riding down the East Coast’s biggest sand dunes. The salty air and beach breeze makes this sunset all the better.

And just one more because I can’t help it. Sunrise + Sunset:📍Lake Norman. Mooresville, NC. - Who wouldn’t love a sunset over a lake? And in my totally unbiased opinion, the sunsets (and sunrises) over Lake Norman are stunning. Find any place on the lake, and you’re bound to enjoy the view. - Tip: rent a boat to watch the sunset or sunrise from the water. Just be careful you aren’t driving the boat in the dark.

South Carolina.

Sunrise:📍 North Myrtle Beach, SC. - Like usual, this is so worth waking up early for. Nothing beats a sunrise over the ocean.

Sunset:📍Charleston, SC.
